Another outsider has won in 250cc, the Australian Anthony West, with three seconds of advantage over Battaini and more than ten over the unknown Sylvain Guintoli. Manuel Poggiali, who had pole position saved the day, thinking of the championship, by finishing fourth and keeps him in first place on a black day for its pursuers. Toni Elas, thirteenth, left Assen with 3 points, and Fonsi Nieto had to retire because his chain came off. Roberto Rolfo is second now with 86 points, Elas is behind him with 86 and Fonsi Nieto goes down to fifth place with 81.
