30 YEARS OF RACING BEHIND US
Regulations dont help
By 1971, the Repsol Motor racing Team was already far beyond a mere reality.
Its image in the various competitions in which it participated was having an impact, and when the team arrived at the various places in Spain, whether to compete in rallies, mountains or circuits, they were awaited with true anticipation.

The team had been strengthened by 1971, and it was leaving no room for rivals. During this season, Eladio Doncel, would continue to occupy the post of Team Manager, although there were moments in which he recharged the teams batteries by participating with them.

In the Spanish Rally Championship, Alberto Ruiz Gimnez was once again the key figure in the Team. He was responsible for retaking the title, and as such he began the year by winning the Fallas Rally in Valencia, accompanied by Javier Bueno, who would later share the season with Ricardo Muoz, at the side of oso.

From the very beginning the results were brilliant, with Ruiz Gimnez driving to victory in the Valencia Rally, Criterium Luis de Baviera, the Barcelona-Andorra and 2000 Virajes Rallies, the Bosch Rally, the Costa Brava Rally, and the Rally del Salmn. He also came in second in various others, all of which put the Repsol Motor Racing Team at the top of the classification lists at the end of the season.

However, the regulations for the Spanish Rally Championship of that year, were very peculiar. Cars that had been manufactured in Spain began to participate, some of them entirely created in the country and others with some foreign components such as cylinder heads, camshafts, etc. In reality this years regulation was intended to promote national production, by giving extra points to Spanish cars.

Excellent partial results were also obtained in the circuits and mountain racing, these however, were only consolidated when Jos Manuel Lencina won the Castilla Mountain Championship.
