The previous year a Porsche 911 had been lost in the Bosch Rally as a result of Doncel veering off the track, and the car later going up in flames. Therefore, only one of these cars remained to take part in the rallies, and this was entrusted to Lencina, who would combine his participation with road tests, driving an Etco of the recently created Formula 1430.

On the other hand, the Team decided to incorporate Seats into its organization, given the growing importance of this make at the time. It began to participate in rallies with the Seat 124 Sport Coup, with the Catalonian, Manuel Juncosa, driving and preparing the car. At the same time, Andrs Manso was given the task of developing a Seat with a 16-valve cylinder head.

When it came to the circuits, all efforts were centred on the participation of Ruiz in a Capri RS 2000, both in national and international competitions, the results of which were varied.

The season of 1972 was in no way brilliant. Rather it was the year which marked the decline of the Repsol Motor-racing Team. Contributing factors were the mediocre management, increasingly costly programmes which called for heavy investment in imported mechanics and a clear tendency towards giving preference to national products. As a result, the Repsol Motor racing team gradually began to disintegrate, and, as such, it disappeared definitively in 1973.
From a historical point of view, the Repsol Team was a landmark in Spanish motor racing. It laid the foundations of a phenomenon that had not previously existed in Spain, factors such as the structure and image of a Team that defended such fundamental components of the automobile as the lubricant and petrol.
