Repsol in World Rally Championship
Nothing happens by chance
Seat�s entry in the Rally World Championship had broken more than a few moulds in terms of what a national brand was capable of doing, and achieving, in a speciality in which the prize involved does not happen just by chance.

For this reason, Martorell, with a more well-defined team and improved technology, rightfully returned in 1997 to bid for the World 2 Litre Championship for the second year running.

After warming up the engines at the Montecarlo and Portugal Rallies, the SEAT name shone across the five continents.� Either with Harry Rovanpera, Oriel G�mez or Erwin Weber, the Evolution II Seat Ibiza Kit cars had difficulty in finding rivals of the same calibre.

�

The triumphs as from the Argentina Rally were consecutive, rally after rally, in Greece and the Antipodes, in the New Zealand and Australia Rallies, in Indonesia and the complicated Finland Rally, moving on to the asphalt of Italy�s San Remo Rally, demonstrating that Seat�s and Repsol�s quality and technology were unbeatable in the last two 2 Litre World Championship and Cup.

However, Seat�s future was not over.

After two years of success, the creation of a new car, a World Rally car to face the big boys in the speciality, implied a new challenge that the Spanish brand would tackle with Spanish drivers and a Spanish lubricant, thereby changing the face of future World Championship Rallies.
