The title of a film fits Sete Gibernau like a glove. He was able to overcome the downpour which fell over Jerez in order to achieve a brilliant victory. It is curious what happens to the Catalan rider because, after racing his way to a great victory, he has to listen on as many people say that he can only win in wet conditions. It is true that the greater part of his victories have been attained in the rain, but racing in these conditions is terribly difficult and winning is therefore of special merit. Neither can it be doubted the quality of last seasons runner-up, the only rider to make things difficult for Valentino Rossi last year. The conclusion which can be made after the race in Jerez is the the championship is more open than last year, with Rossi being the favourite. The Italian dominated the warm-ups, however the bad set-up forced him to be more prudent. Despite all of this, Yamaha is one of the best and the equality between the bikes will be the high point of the season. If the race in France is disputed on a dry track, the form of the favourites for the title will be able to be measured. And to finish off with, the 250cc category. It would be nice to have the old Foni Nieto back. Downhearted at the start of the season, the podium finish achieved should help to situate him amongst the favourites for the title.
