Dani Pedrosa, owner of many records, has not been able to get his hands on one of the few records that he has never held, that for being the youngest winner of a race. If he had won in Jerez or Losail he would have become the youngest ever to win a race in the top category of the World Motorcycling Championship. But now only Casey Stoner, a few weeks younger than Pedrosa, can think about adding Freddie Spencers record to their files.
Stoner has just one more chance to win this record since the day that the Turkish GP is held he will be exactly 20 years and 196 days old. That means he would be exactly the same age as Freddie Spencer when he got his first ever victory, in the Belgian GP 1982. Stoner, like Pedrosa, was close to doing so in the first race of the season in Qatar, when he also obtained his first pole position in MotoGP.
In any case, both young riders are bringing a revolution to the top category of the World Motorcycling Championship. Their great performances at the beginning of the season that has just started makes you think that they will not take long for them to be fighting for the title, as they did last year in 250cc. At the moment both are asking for time to learn. |
