Laguna Seca will have support from Yamaha at least until 2010. This what is set out in the contract signed between the American circuit and the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, and therefore extends its commitment to this track. Not in vain is the USA the biggest market for both Yamaha and Honda, and that is why helping to maintain the United States GP is really important for them.
Bob Starr, boss of communications at Yamaha Motor said that "after last year, we had no doubts about taking advantage of this opportunity to continue our links". The USA GP in 2005, with only the MotoGP category participating, was a big success among the fans, although some riders criticised the level of safety at the circuit.
Indeed the improvements needed to remedy these defects are now the main preoccupation for the company that manages Laguna Seca. These works should be finished before the race later this year, held between 21st 23rd July. Gill Campbell, the CEO at the circuit, is very optimistic about "getting these facilities among the best in the calendar", especially now that support from Yamaha will be forthcoming for some time longer. |
