The Japanese technician has the challenge of making a winning machine for Valentino Rossi but heis very motivated and wants to make the project that Yamaha has put into his hands a reality: that is to reconquer the world title in the top category. Furusawa compares his function as the man in charge of development to that of a head chef in a big kitchen, who must cook up a winning machine for Valentino. "We have selected some ingredients, now we are mixing them and soon we will be able to test the result" commented Furusawa last weekend, during the first team training session.

Furusawa and Rossi share the same desire: to twin the world title in the Italians first season at Yamaha. The engineer has a very high opinion of his new rider: "I like his character and appreciate his ability to help out with technical details, pointing out the needs that crop up. His team is also very helpful".

Furusawa has been working on the new M1 for the last six months. "I started halfway through last season and I saw that we had to improve it. The idea, among other things, was to get more power. We have gained some top speed, but that is not everything in MotoGP. We have studied the frame in detail and we used a new one in Valencia, last year" he explains.

But that is not all. At Yamaha they are convinced that Valentino will have a winning bike in his hands when the championship starts on 18th April at Welkom. For this they have prepared "four engines, four different frames and other components. We will try out everything during the three training sessions that we have scheduled. Later, we will combine the results to get a good bike. We have given ourselves two months and a half to construct the best machine". |
