The Japanese company communicated this to its main sponsor a few weeks ago and the idea has been gaining strength as time has passed. Yamaha seems inflexible in its decision to race bikes without advertising in 2005, although lately it seems that the company has received pressure to change its opinion. The last of these, at the Sachsenring, where high ranking executives from both companies had a meeting that was not at all calm.
The tobacco company have not accepted Yamahas intentions, who they have been collaborating with since the end of 2002, very well. The season that followed the signing of this agreement was not very successful, since Honda beat his rival over and over again. Now that things are going well they see the decision as a sort of treason. If things do not change Altadis ill find their future in MotoGP very complicated because their directors do not want to see its name on bikes that are not fighting for the podium, especially now that they are used to seeing victories.
Yamaha Motor wants to do things in big style to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Besides racing without advertising in MotoGP the company is preparing their entry into the smallest category. The YZ 125, that is racing in the Japanese championship, is the bike that will be the base for the machine that will participate in the WSC. The idea is to cede it to a private team but with one condition they choose the rider, probably the Japanese rider Tomoyoshi Koyama. |
