Electrical switch worked by temperature. The contacts can open or close when a certain temperature is reached. They are used in engine cooling systems to activate the electro-fan on the radiator. They are also used in air conditioning and climate control systems to trigger various parts at certain temperatures.

| Thermostat |
|
A mechanism used in the cooling system to control the flow of liquid coolant that is diverted to the radiator. It is a temperature operated valve. The valve is connected to a full capsule of a substance that expands a lot (paraffins). With the engine cold. the valveremains closed and the liquid returns by another tube to the pump. When the engine is hot it ands and the vave opens. the liquid can pass to the radiator. giving its heat up to the atmosphere. The different positions allow the regulatin of the flow of liquid passing to the radiator. The opening usually begins around 80-85�C and ends around 90-95�C.
