| Transmission shaft |

The shaft that transmits the turning movement from the engine to the gearbox or to the differential is called in this way. The shafts that transmit the movement from the differential to the wheels are also known as axle-shafts (they are also known as wheel drive shafts).

| Transmission universal joint |
|
Transmission system between two shafts that are not in line. The nexus for the union uses an intermediate shaft which includes a cross/spider at the exit of the secondary shaft and a pair of conical gears on the opposite end. This shaft is connected on one side to the secondary shaft gearbox exit and on the other to the rear wheel. It works bathed in oil and needs almost no maintenance. It is used almost exclusively on motorbikes and is very typical on BMWs.
