This is the system used on small motorcycles. racing bikes. light aviation engines. outboards...On these engines. the admission. compression. combustion and exhaust phases take place every two turns of the combined piston-connecting rod. which means that for every turn of the crankshaft there is an explosion and the rising stroke. Compared to four stroke engines. they are simpler and cheaper to produce.

The internal combustion engine that carries out the four cycles of operation in two piston strokes is called in this way. The cycles are admission. compression. explosion and exhaust and are made while the crankshaft turns once. It can be used with the Otto (petrol) or diesel cycles. Usually. the two-stroke engines lack distribution and the filling and emptying of the cylinder and is done via lateral holes. The crankcase is used in admission to carry out the precompression of the mixture.
