| Ignition advance |
This is the moment when the spark that jumps at the spark plug is ahead of the arrival of the piston to top dead centre. Advance is usually expressed in degrees of turn of the crankshaft. Engines are adjusted with a specific advance because the propagation of the flame front when igniting the mixture takes a short time to reach the whole mixture.

| Ignition blocking |
A system that blocks the engine ignition until it is unblocked with the ignition key.

| Ignition map |
The representation of the engine timing based on two variables is called in this way. At each value of the variables there is a corresponding ignition advance. The product of this representation is a three-dimensional image that forms crests and valleys. The ignition map can be memorized in a digital electronic switchboard (rpm and load state of the engine) or worked out mechanically (centrifugal advance and by vacuum).
