Whiplash Protection System. a safety device that absorbs part of the energy that the driver receives in an impact when hit from behind. The seat and the headrest swivel reducing the acceleration that the driver�s and passenger�s bodies have to support. This is used by Volvo.

| Wind tunnel |
|
A closed building where manufacturers test real sized vehicles or models under aerodynamic conditions similar to those that affect a vehicle at a certain speed. This is like a long room or tunnel which uses large fans to create an air current. A vehicle is placed in the tunnel and via ultra-violet light. smoke or foam the flow of air can be checked when it hits the vehicle�s body. The most modern wind tunnels are capable of simulating bad atmospheric conditions (rain or snow) and of reaching air speeds of up to 200kph.
