| Lubricant |
|
Substance that is used in vehicles to avoid metal parts receiving friction. the lubricant is a thin layer of oil that separates moving parts. It also serves to transfer any heat toward areas of cooling and to remove pollutants and particles. In this way wear on moving parts is avoided. A new engine needs free flowing oil and a used engine a more viscous oil. Two types exist: mineral (from crude oil) and synthetic (from polybuthene or from propylene). The best is to change it every 5 000km. The API quality level for petrol vehicles begins with S and in for diesels with C. The higher the second the better the oil.
