| Exhaust |
This is the final phase of the combustion process. It begins when the exhaust valve opens and the piston rises from the Bottom Dead Centre (BDC) to the Top Dead Centre (TDC). The burnt gases come out to the atmosphere through the exhaust channel because of the difference in pressure. As the gases are still hot inside the cylinder. the pressure is higher than in the atmosphere and as soon as the valve opens the gases leave. The piston on its upward journey sweeps out the gases when the pressure disappears.

| Exhaust |
Metallic part made up of several channels through which the burnt air leaves the interior of the combustion chamber and channels it toward the exhaust pipe. It is manufactured out of forged iron and can withstand the high temperatures of the exhaust gases.
