This is a type of engine that has two bedplates for the cylinders at 180 and where each piston comes close and goes away from the crankshaft simultaneously. It is characterized by its low centre of gravity and because of its low height. It differs from engines with opposed horizontal cylinders because each piston has its own crankpin instead of sharing it.
