| Volumetric efficiency |
|
This is a calculation that expresses the percentage of use of an engines cylinder capacity. The volume of the cylinder that is full of mixture generates a certain amount of energy. If this is related to the energy that it is really produced by the engine one has the volumetric efficiency. It serves to indicate the filling achieved and depends on the efficiency of the the gases entering and leaving system of the cylinder.

Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System or System of control of variable distribution. This consists of a third valve on each cylinder that operates to discharge revolutions. The beam of this valve does not operate when revolutions drop. but while accelerating. the pressure of the oil displaces a spring between the beams of the other levers and that of the central lever. and the whole group is joined. When the motor reduces revs the spring is picked up and the central beam is loosened. This system is coupled to the admission and exhaust valves on DOHC engines and only to the admission valves on engines with a single camshaft. It is used by Honda on their cars. A variant of this system is the VTEC-AND that adapts the operation of the engine to a lean mixture.
