| Diesel |
A fuel that is made up of a mixture of hydrocarbons coming from the cracking process of crude oil. Its capacity to ignite is measured with the cetane number (100) very inflammable. in comparison to alphamethyl naphthalene (0) which is not very inflammable. The diesels used in vehicles have a cetane index around 50. This is a fuel that is denser and less volatile than petrol. and the paraffins that it contains freeze at low temperatures. It produces more energy per unit of burnt mass than petrol.

| Diesel engine |
Alternative internal combustion engine by compression. It uses diesel oil as fuel. In the admission phase the piston sucks air through the admission valve. Once the valve closes the air mix is compressed in the combustion chamber. After this the diesel injection begins which is heated up and when it makes contact with the air it ignites. Because of their design and the heat value of the diesel the diesel engine consumes 30-40 less fuel than a petrol engine.
